If very thick layers of protective varnish are required or if the flow of the applied varnish must be prevented, e.g. to prevent penetration into plug contacts, then a dam can be formed with a highly thixotropic material. The dam is applied as a bead with a dispensing system. Behind this dam, the more liquid protective varnish is then filled up to the desired application thickness.
